A curriculum vitae is a document that has all of your important information on it. It is good to have one so that people know about you and your skills. You should make sure that it is well written and easy to read so that people will want to learn more about you.

In addition to that, having it in Notion brings it to another level, because you can export it in 1 click to a PDF or share it quickly with its URL.

In order to get the most out of your Notion CV, be sure follow these simple guidelines.

The average recruiter spend on average 6 seconds looking at your resume

Busy people have few time to complete their tasks, for this reason you need to write your resume in a way that highlight what is needed or researched from your employer.

The resume, in general, comprises 4 sections:

  1. Contacts
  2. Work experience
  3. Education
  4. Skills

Excluding the first, contacts, change-filter-remove work experience, education and skills to reflect what the job application is asking for.

👤 First and foremost, who are you❓

👱
Your photo is the best way to bring your Resume alive!

Having an image of yourself on file means that potential employers will be able to see not only what you look like, but also how it reflects who they could potentially work with. It's a small thing, but makes all those numbers and data more personal by allowing them access into our lives through visuals.

💼 Include relevant work experience

Writing a resume is not just about telling employers what you've done. It's also an opportunity to connect with them on paper by sharing your story and showing off the skills they might need for their company.

Any kind of work-experience can be written in here. Did you volunteer for a cause? Write it down. Did you do any part-time job? Write it down.

In addition to the general information such as Title, Time and Location, you should add relevant technologies and/or specific projects done, people you worked and interacted with. For example, this is one of my experiences:

🎓 Spotlight on your education

When describing your course of study, it is important to emphasize which courses you took and how those skills helped improve other aspects. For example, employment opportunities in the field are often limited by an applicant's abilities related specifically with what they learned, so making this clear on one’s resume can give them more chances at success.

  • Write down every important and related project you took: even with no work experience, you can showcase that you actually worked on something similar in an educational background.
  • Online courses can fall in this category.
  • Last but not least, write every certification and online courses: language certificates, even not related, might showcase your willingness to learn, for example.

🤹 List your skills

After work and education experience, write down your skills, better in a list.
Above this section, you can make a simple table, or just a list of the languages you're fluent, like this:

Languages

Mother Tongue Italian

Listening Reading Spoken Interaction Spoken Production Writing Writing
English C1 C1 C1 C1 C1 C1
German B1 B1 B1 B1 B1 B1

Levels: A1/2: Basic user - B1/2: Independent user - C1/2 Proficient user

You can then place your skills in a list, starting with those that are most relevant.

Read carefully the job listing, and you will see that people search for different things:
